Funding

Funding Application

Active Eastbourne and Lewes run several rounds of funding throughout the year. Successful applications can receive up to £1,000 to purchase equipment or to deliver a project.

The Active Eastbourne and Lewes Partnership Fund specifically target inequalities in access to physical activity. By encouraging and supporting funding applications for tailored projects and initiatives, we aim to:

  • Increase opportunities for physical activity.
  • Promote community health and wellbeing.
  • Create an inclusive environment that addresses barriers to participation.

In this application process you can choose to:

  • Submit an application for a project or purchase you have identified as needed in your local area (green section below)
  • Submit an expression of interest for a project proposed by Active Eastbourne and Lewes (blue section below)

If you are interested in applying for funding from the Active Eastbourne and Lewes Fund, start by completing the Expression of Interest form.

The funding process consists of three stages, if your application is successful:

Expression of Interest for Own Project or Purchase

If you are submitting your own project / purchase expression of interest form, remember applications should align in targeting the following groups to be more active:

  • Women
  • Older people
  • People living with a disability
  • People living with a long-term health condition
  • Black and Asian ethnic groups

If you do have a project / purchase aimed at different groups, still submit and highlight the case for funding – opportunities are always available and getting more people physical active is the aim.

Old Town Hub CIC

The Active Eastbourne and Lewes Fund has played a vital role in supporting the setup of Pickleball at Old Town Hub CIC. The fund allowed us to purchase Pickleball equipment and line painting – we can now offer a less energetic and physical option for people staying active. Although the initial outlay was expensive, it has been justified by the growth in the sport. Thanks to the fund, permanent court markings and nets are available to hire, allowing people to enjoy pickleball at their own convenience. We also run 2 x pickleball sessions per week, and this will grow over the coming months. Everyone who has played so far has loved the experience, with many participants returning to sport after playing tennis and embracing Pickleball as a fun accessible alternative.

Whittfit Training

The Stronger for Longer project delivered by Whittfit Training Ltd, was a 14-week programme focused on strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

Participants attended 2-3 one-hour sessions each week, led by Whittfits’s team of qualified personal trainers. Throughout the 14-weeks, instructors carefully progressed each participant’s training when appropriate, gradually increasing exercise difficulty.

The project proved very popular, attracting over 20 applicants. To meet this demand, Whittfit went on to deliver a second programme.

Over the course of the 14-weeks, participants:

  • Improved their strength and confidence using resistance exercise.
  • Increased the amount of exercise they did compared to before the project.
  • Reported wider benefits to their wellbeing and social connections through taking part in regular physical activity.
